Düsseldorf cartwheelers

It is one of our oldest city stories. In 1288, the people of Düsseldorf spontaneously gathered in the streets and the children did cartwheels for joy. The reason: The Battle of Worringen had been won and Count Adolf thanked them by granting Düsseldorf city rights. For a long time, cartwheeling was a matter for the "Penz", who demanded "eene Penning" for it. Today, the tradition lives on in the annual cartwheel competition for schools. In the cityscape, you will encounter the original symbol of Düsseldorf at every turn, reinterpreted in over 100 sculptures from historical to ultra-modern. The form of cartwheeler used for our souvenirs, designed by the artist Professor Friedrich Becker , is protected by copyright.
